INFORMATION

The Society of Construction Law – Viet Nam (SCLVN) and Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), and are pleased to announce the upcoming Hochiminh city International Construction Arbitration Conference 2025 (HICAC2025) to be held in Rex hotel, Hochiminh city, Vietnam.

This conference aims to bring together professionals from the construction industry, legal experts, arbitrators, and academics to discuss the latest trends, practices, and developments in construction arbitration. As Vietnam continues to experience significant growth in construction activities, this conference provides a timely platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge and insights on the challenges and opportunities facing the construction arbitration landscape in Vietnam and beyond. The conference will feature informative panel discussions, and networking opportunities to foster collaboration and promote best practices. We look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to this exciting event.

Ajit Kumar Mishra

Beyond the Protocol: India’s Divergent Approach to Delay and Disruption Analysis in Construction Arbitration

Ajit Kumar Mishra is a prominent figure in the dispute resolution field, particularly in the context of construction and infrastructure projects. He is currently serving as as a board member as Director (Works) in IRCON International Ltd, a central public sector entity executing infrastructure projects in over 25 countries. Prior to this posting he had been heading Contract Management Division for a USD 12 billion World Bank / JICA funded infrastructure project in India.
Mr Ajit Kumar Mishra has a strong background in engineering, management, and law, holding a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, an LLM in International Dispute Resolution, an MBA in International Business, and a Diploma in International Arbitration. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), Fellow of Prime Dispute (UK) and has been member of UK Adjudicators, Dispute Resolution Board Foundation.
He has over 30 years of professional work experience in the field of Project Management, International Procurement, Contract Management, Risk Management, Infrastructure Financing and Dispute Resolution for large infrastructure project.
He is a FIDIC Certified Adjudicator and is listed on the FIDIC President’s List of Approved Dispute Adjudicators. He also holds a FIDIC Certified Trainer credential, which underscores his authority to train others in FIDIC contract methodologies.
He is empanelled as arbitrator and adjudicator in several international arbitration institutions. He serves as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator in domestic arbitration, and also international disputes.
He also serves as Vice Chairman of Society of Construction Law, India; an India delegate of ICC Arbitration and ADR Committee and Member of ICC Institute of World Business Law.
His expertise also covers a range of practice areas including arbitration, adjudication, dispute boards, emergency arbitration, expert determination, expert witness, and mediation.
In addition to serving as arbitrator and adjudicator, Mr Mishra has contributed to the academic field with publications such as his work on the dispute resolution mechanism in FIDIC-based construction contracts in India.
He has received several awards during service including ‘National Awards of Outstanding Service’ highest award given by Govt of India to an officer.

Akshay Kishore

Partner at Bird & Bird LLP

Akshay is a Partner in Bird & Bird’s Singapore office. Akshay specializes in advising and representing clients in infra projects and energy related commercial disputes. He also assists client with active dispute management and claim preparations.
Akshay is dual qualified in UK and India, and has an LL.M. from New York University.
He is a solicitor-advocate and represents clients at arbitration hearings. He has represented clients across APAC, Middle-East, and Europe and is experienced in dealing with matters under both common and civil law jurisdictions. Akshay also sits as an arbitrator.

Asel El Housan

Founder and the Managing Director of AEH UK Limited

Asel El Housan is a Civil Engineer and a veteran of the international construction industry with more than twenty-nine years of experience in the construction field. She is the founder and the Managing Director of AEH UK Limited. She is an arbitrator and expert witness. Her experience ranges in between many countries including UAE, UK, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Thailand, and Nepal. Asel is a FIDIC affiliate member and certified trainer, she is also a member of many associations like DRBF, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Society of Construction Law, Adjudication Society, and Scottish arbitration centre.
Asel was a speaker at many conferences including FIDIC Users Conference, Adjudication Society Conference, DRBF Annual International Conference, CIArb, Alternative Dispute Resolution International Conference, and many others. Asel has long experience in claims, variations, settlement agreements, and construction dispute resolution both litigation and arbitration and an outstanding experience in different types of Contracts (EPC Turnkey, Design & Build, Construction, DBO, DBOT, DBOO, PPP, Consultancy Agreements & Sub-agreements, and Subcontracts.

Chamnan Pichedpan

An advisor to Construction Lawyers Society and member of Thai Dispute Board institute as well as Construction Arbitration Centre (Asia-Pacific)

Chamnan is a professional lawyer in Thailand. He is an English Barrister at Law, graduated in 1979. He is an advisor to Construction Lawyers Society and member of Thai Dispute Board institute as well as Construction Arbitration Centre (Asia-Pacific).
He has extensive experiences in international and local construction contracts and construction management.
Chamnan has been construction project managers of the then tallest building in Thailand, Baiyoke Tower I and Baiyoke Tower II and many other smaller projects.
He has also been co-arbitrator and chairperson of arbitral tribunal in several construction disputes.
As member and/or chairman of committees with responsibilities similar to that of dispute avoidance board, he had helped a number of public and private construction parties avoiding potential disputes.

Dao Linh Chi

Arbitral Assistant at ADR Vietnam Chambers LLC

Author Dao Linh Chi is an Assistant to the Arbitrator at ADR Vietnam Chambers. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Dispute Resolution from the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London (United Kingdom). During her studies, she specialized in arbitration and international mediation.

Before joining ADR Vietnam Chambers, Chi interned at the Secretariat of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) and in the dispute resolution departments of law firms. She has experience assisting the Secretariat in managing arbitration cases and supporting lawyers in representing clients in arbitration and court proceedings.

During her time at Hanoi Law University and Queen Mary University of London, Chi participated in and achieved high rankings in national and international Moot and Mediation competitions.

Chi is fluent in both English and Vietnamese. She currently serves as a Tribunal Secretary in domestic and international dispute cases.

Elliott Geisinger

Partner, Schellenberg Wittmer Ltd

Elliott Geisinger heads Schellenberg Wittmer’s International Arbitration Practice. For three decades, he has acted as counsel and arbitrator in complex commercial disputes, particularly in international construction and engineering disputes. He also regularly represents clients in arbitration-related court proceedings, having argued several landmark cases before the Swiss Supreme Court.

A significant part of Elliott Geisinger’s practice is real-time contract management in construction and infrastructure projects. Consistently recognized in leading legal directories, he is highly regarded by peers for his expertise in construction law. One client notably remarked, ‘He thinks like an engineer.’

Since 2015, Elliott Geisinger has delivered an annual Certificate Course on international construction contracts at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he also co-founded the “Istanbul International Construction Conferences” project (Welcome | İstanbul International Construction Law Conferences Websites). Additionally, he is a lecturer in the annual Professional Arbitrations Skills course at the University of Aberdeen’s School of Law.

From 2014 to 2019 Elliott Geisinger served as President of the Swiss Arbitration Association (“ASA”). He now holds the title of Honorary President. Between 2018 to 2021, he was a board member of the Center for International Dispute Settlement (“CIDS”), established in 2016 by University of Geneva’s Faculty of Law and the Geneva Graduate Institute. Chartered Engineer; Chartered Arbitrator; Accredited Mediator, FIEI, FCIArb

A Chartered Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the delivery of utility, infrastructure and building assets in Ireland and internationally. A FIDIC Certified Adjudicator and member of the FIDIC President’s List of approved Dispute Adjudicators.

A Chartered Arbitrator and CEDR Accredited Mediator with significant experience as an arbitrator, mediator, conciliator and adjudicator for energy and general construction disputes.

Construction contracts and disputes resolution specialist. Experienced in the use of civil engineering and building contracts (IEI, GCCC Public Works, RIAI, GDLA) and other model contract forms (NEC, FIDIC and Joint IMechE/IEE including MF/1) together with professional services contracts.

A technical and commercially minded professional who has advised on investment strategies and improvement programmes for regulated utility infrastructure.

Accomplished in the project and programme management of major construction projects and capital investment programmes.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa has been a lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law in Viet Nam from September 2019, where she teaches and researches international business law, international commercial arbitration law, the law on digital technology application, and the negotiation and drafting of international commercial contracts. From April 2022, she has also served as a reviewer for the Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction which is indexed in Scopus and ranked in the 1st quartile for 2020–2025) of the American Society of Civil Engineering. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh

Vu Anh Duong

With her nearly 15 years at VIAC, Hang brings deep institutional expertise in the administration and coordination of arbitral proceedings, with particular focus on cases involving international elements. She is among a few in Vietnam to have completed the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) Master’s Programme in International Dispute Resolution. Ms. Vu Thi Hang serves as Chief of Secretariat and Member of the Scientific Council at the Viet Nam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), where she holds overall responsibility for the day-to-day administration and operations of the Secretariat. Before her tenure as a lecturer, she worked as a legal adviser at the Department of Justice of Ho Chi Minh City in Viet Nam (2010–August 2019) and her responsibilities included advising on public–private partnership contracts, construction law, investment law, international dispute resolution, promotion of commercial arbitration, recognition and enforcement of decisions of foreign authorities, etc. In December 2018, she finished her PhD thesis with the highest honour at Panthéon-Assas Paris II University in France on the topic of ‘Dispute resolution procedures in the international construction sector under FIDIC forms of contracts’. Since 2023, Dr. Hoa has been invited to serve as an expert for disputes referred to the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC). In 2025, she was nominated to act as an arbitrator for a dispute brought before the Vietnamese International Arbitration Center (VIAC). Recently, she had also been invited to serve as an expert in the Scientific Council of VIAC (2025-2026).

Ajit Kumar Mishra

Beyond the Protocol: India’s Divergent Approach to Delay and Disruption Analysis in Construction Arbitration

Ajit Kumar Mishra is a prominent figure in the dispute resolution field, particularly in the context of construction and infrastructure projects. He is currently serving as as a board member as Director (Works) in IRCON International Ltd, a central public sector entity executing infrastructure projects in over 25 countries. Prior to this posting he had been heading Contract Management Division for a USD 12 billion World Bank / JICA funded infrastructure project in India.
Mr Ajit Kumar Mishra has a strong background in engineering, management, and law, holding a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, an LLM in International Dispute Resolution, an MBA in International Business, and a Diploma in International Arbitration. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), Fellow of Prime Dispute (UK) and has been member of UK Adjudicators, Dispute Resolution Board Foundation.
He has over 30 years of professional work experience in the field of Project Management, International Procurement, Contract Management, Risk Management, Infrastructure Financing and Dispute Resolution for large infrastructure project.
He is a FIDIC Certified Adjudicator and is listed on the FIDIC President’s List of Approved Dispute Adjudicators. He also holds a FIDIC Certified Trainer credential, which underscores his authority to train others in FIDIC contract methodologies.
He is empanelled as arbitrator and adjudicator in several international arbitration institutions. He serves as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator in domestic arbitration, and also international disputes.
He also serves as Vice Chairman of Society of Construction Law, India; an India delegate of ICC Arbitration and ADR Committee and Member of ICC Institute of World Business Law.

He has extensive experiences in international and local construction contracts and construction management.
Chamnan has been construction project managers of the then tallest building in Thailand, Baiyoke Tower I and Baiyoke Tower II and many other smaller projects.

Dao Linh Chi

Author Dao Linh Chi is an Assistant to the Arbitrator at ADR Vietnam Chambers. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Dispute Resolution from the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London (United Kingdom). I graduated with a law degree from Leicester University, UK and have a Master of Laws from the National University of Singapore. I am called to the English Bar (Middle Temple), the Malaysian Bar and the Singapore Bar.

I have been practising as a construction lawyer for over 20 years – first at Messrs Skrine in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and subsequently, in WongPartnership LLP, Singapore. My area of practice focuses on construction disputes especially in arbitration, mediation and statutory adjudication. I also undertake transactional work such as drafting and reviewing construction contracts and advising on infrastructure projects.

Prior to practising in Singapore, I was the Deputy Registrar of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (“SIAC”) where I supervised the administration of arbitration cases, the application of the SIAC Arbitration Rules, case management, scrutiny of awards and assisted in the appointment and challenges of arbitrators and their jurisdiction.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (“FCIArb”) and a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. I am also a member of the Society of Construction Law (Singapore) and the Association of Women in Construction Law (Singapore).

Johnny obtained his first degree in Architecture from the University of Western Australia under the Colombo Plan Scholarship. He was a founding partner of LT&T Architects where he practised for almost 30 years. Johnny now practises as an independent arbitrator. He is a Past President of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb), having served two terms as President from 2007 to 2011.
