TRAINING PROGRAM “CLAIM MANAGEMENT AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN FIDIC CONTRACTS”

To help organizations and individuals gain more knowledge about managing complaints and resolving disputes in construction contracts in general and FIDIC model contracts in particular, the Center for Research, Development and Training in Construction Law of the Association is organizing a training program on “MANAGING CLAIMS AND RESOLVING DISPUTES IN FIDIC CONTRACTS” in Ho Chi Minh City on July 18-19, 2026.

Time and location:

Duration: 2 days, Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19, 2026 (Opening ceremony: 8:50 AM on July 18, 2026).

Location: Apollo 2 Room (2nd Floor), Liberty Central Sai Gon Citypoint Hotel, 59-61 Pasteur Street, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

Course results:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

– Identify and analyze the events giving rise to claims and the common causes of disputes according to FIDIC contract models.

– Present, defend, and evaluate claims in accordance with the contract procedures and protocols.

– Understand the differences between DAAB/DAB and Arbitration, as well as the options available
– Understand the procedural rules of DAB and DAAB.

– Effectively draft dispute correspondence and notices in accordance with FIDIC requirements.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

–  Identify and analyse common claim events and dispute triggers under FIDIC Contracts

–  Present, defend, and evaluate claims using the correct contractual procedures

–  Understand the difference between DAAB/DAB and Arbitration and options

–  Understand DAB and DAAB procedural rules

–  Draft effective correspondence and dispute notices in line with FIDIC requirements

With over two decades of experience in Vietnam’s construction industry, Long Nguyen is a distinguished expert in cost and contract management. As Co-founder and Managing Director of VinaQS Company Limited, he has been instrumental in establishing the firm as a leading local Quantity Surveying consultancy, delivering international-standard services to both local and global clients. Long’s professional journey began in 2005 as the lead Quantity Surveyor at Davis Langdon & Seah Vietnam, where he advanced to Assistant Director by 2008. In 2012, he joined Turner & Townsend as a senior cost and project manager, overseeing projects for prominent international and demanding local clients. By 2014, he co-founded VinaQS, focusing on delivering Quantity Surveying and Cost Management services across diverse markets. His areas of expertise include cost planning, procurement analysis, contract advisory, dispute prevention, and mediation. He is FIDIC Certified Trainer on Fundamental Contracts and Silver Book (EPC/Turnkey), and Member of Writing Committee and Examination Committee, FIDIC Certified Contract Manager (FCCM) programme.

Trung has been enlisted to the Panels of Arbitrators in Brunei Darussalam (BDAC), China (BAC/BIAC), Malaysia (AIAC), Myanmar (MIAC), Japan (JACC), Thailand (THAC), and Vietnam (VIAC).
He has experience as Chair of Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) in power projects, has been certified by FCL as FIDIC Certified Adjudicator, and listed on FIDIC President’s List of Approved Dispute Adjudicators.

Mr Le Cong Minh is a Director at Anvelo Singapore, specialising in delay and disruption analysis. He has been appointed as an expert witness in various arbitrations at VIAC and SIAC, as well as in dispute resolution proceedings before Dispute Boards. His experience spans major industrial, oil and gas, energy, telecommunication, and infrastructure projects in Vietnam and across the region.

She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Singapore.
As a Manager at Secretariat, Ms. Tran has been involved in various formal dispute resolution proceedings, including arbitrations under the ICC, SIAC and DIAC rules. Academic qualifications in B Sc in Quantity Surveying, Diploma in Arbitration, followed a course in Adjudication and training as a Mediator.
I had been Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS), United Kingdom and Associate member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb), United Kingdom. I served as the Country Representative of Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF), USA.
My experience includes about 15 years’ experience in international projects in Dubai, Oman, Qatar, Maldives and Seychelles. I currently serve as Dispute Board member/ Adjudicator, Arbitrator, Expert Witness in Sri Lanka in various projects.
